Zimbabwe’s Chinhoyi University of Technology achieved full university status in 2001; it offers students the opportunity to study towards degrees in agriculture, engineering and business science.
Until recently, the university operated with only 10 computers available for nearly 3,000 students. The 309 computers provided by Computer Aid will substantially increase the level of education the university is able to provide, and enhance the learning experience of its students.
Zimbabwe is one of the most impoverished countries on the planet, due to conflict, along with political and economic instability. Its GDP is less than $100 (ppp) and it has a population of which over 50% are below the poverty line. As of 2006, Zimbabwe had 5.4 computers per 100 population, placing it behind Sudan (11), Namibia (19) and Cape Verde (12).
The computers provided by Computer Aid will be used for teaching, learning and research purposes.
