Providing Dental Care in the Most Remote Areas of Morocco

Computer Aid International, Dell Technologies, Airbus, and Fondation Orient Occident (FOO) have started collaborating in El Haouz to the south of Marrakech, after the devastating earthquake in 2023.

We have installed 5 solar powered connectivity centres to allow free access to the Internet and digital technologies for the local population. In the past 12 months, we have successfully focused our actions around Education and Employment, but the local population face many other issues.

El Haouz is a very remote area with almost no access to health services. The population needs to travel far to get treatment and often can’t afford it. In February 2025, FOO contacted APEMD (Association Pulpe d’espoir des Medecins dentistes), an association that provides mobile dentistry centres all over Morocco, to see if there was a possibility for collaboration.

APEMD managed to find availability in their tight schedule and FOO worked with the local partners to plan everything. On 3^rd May 2025, 22 dentists volunteered and were sent to Tinmel centre to treat the population of the 5 villages we work in. Transport and food was provided for all by FOO and our local partners.

The day was a success with the following outputs:

• 22 dentists treated hundreds of local patients
• 8 rooms separate dentistry rooms provided
  • Consultation room / to decide if any treatment needed
  • Prevention room / to educate all beneficiaries on dental hygiene and providing them with a hygiene kit
  • Sterilisation room
  • Extraction room
  • 2 Hygiene rooms
  • 2 Care rooms with 3 chairs each

Overall, 220 people from 5 villages were treated.

Following the success of this initiative, we are planning to organise further pop-up dentistry facilities at the solar connectivity centres on a regular basis.
