Zambia Teachers Graduate!

In April 2018, the Zambia eClasses project began across Secondary Schools in the Zambian capital of Lusaka, in partnership with Computer Aid International (CAI), SITA, SchoolNet Zambia (SNZ), and ICDL. The aim of the project was to equip 10 Secondary Schools in the region, with fully-functioning computers labs, benefiting the teachers and students of the school.

Teachers received training to help them use ICT effectively in their lessons. Now, we're happy to share that they've completed their ICDL training and graduated with some amazing results!

  • 20 teachers passed all 5 modules

  • 100% pass the ICT for education module

  • The median pass rate for each module was 80%

We have a few examples from some of the teachers in the project:

Brian Mutale

Brian is a Physics teacher at Ndeke Secondary School. He has taught there for 5 years and currently teaches Grade 12 students. Brian decided to pay for himself to join the training and assessment, as his wife Petronella was taking part. At the start of the project, he felt he had 'Basic' ICT skills. He has now passed all 5 ICDLmodules and scored 100% in the ICT In Education module. Brian passed every module at his first attempt. Brian is now eager to undertake training in the Presentations module.

Petronella Matanda Mutale

Petronella is a Mathematics and ICT teacher at Ndeke Secondary School. She has taught there for 6 years and currently teachers Grade 9. She has now passed all 5 ICDL modules, with her highest score being 86% in Computer Essentials. Before the project intervention, Petronella wasn't computer literate and was teaching ICT in theoretical rather than practical terms.

Peggy Chiliboyi

Peggy is a Mathematics teacher at Nyumba Yanga Secondary School. She has taught there for 6 years and currently teaches Grade 9. At the start of training, she struggled with the content, however, has now passed all 5 ICDL modules, with her highest score being 97% in Word Processing. After this turnaround, she has been viewed as an inspiration by other teachers.

The Zambia eClasses project has made steady progress in achieving its outputs in its first year. We're very proud of the progress made and the teacher's input into the process, we're looking forward to seeing the project go even further next year!
