Empowering Communities: SPF Becomes ICDL Accredited

Capacitando comunidades através de habilidades: SPF torna-se um centro acreditado ICDL

Our partnership with the Small Projects Foundation (SPF) in East London, South Africa, continues to go from strength to strength. After collaborating on the establishment of the Solar Community Hub in Nxarhuni – a project bringing access to technology, sexual health education, and environmental support to a community of over 40,000 people – we’re delighted to announce the next exciting step.

SPF is now officially an accredited ICDL (International Certification in Digital Literacy) Centre.

Over a three-month training period, SPF facilitated a blended programme of in-person and remote learning. As a result, 10 of the 12 Hub managers have now been ICDL certified. These digital champions are now equipped not only with vital ICT skills but also with the tools to pass this knowledge on.

What’s next? Community training.

This marks a pivotal moment for Nxarhuni and the surrounding villages. With SPF’s new accreditation, local residents will soon have access to globally recognised digital qualifications, boosting employability, improving access to information, and opening new doors for education and entrepreneurship.

We’re proud to continue working alongside SPF to bridge the digital divide – one certification at a time. You can read more about our work with them: https://www.computeraid.org/case-study/solar-community-hub-in-newlands-south-africa/
