O nosso Administrador, Dominic McVey recently visited two of our Digital Centres in Nairobi County, both of which operate under the Digital Economy and Start-ups Department in the Nairobi County Government.

Central Business District Centre
The Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) centre equips youth seeking internships with digital and professional skills, including ICDL, entrepreneurship, cybersecurity, and job readiness/employability. During the visit, Dominic engaged with one of three cohorts of around 40 interns studying cybersecurity, highlighting both the high demand for training and efficient utilisation of available resources.

Ofafa Jericho Innovation centre
The Ofafa Jericho Innovation centre (OJIH) is located within an informal settlement in Nairobi and is equipped with 25 computers, a projector, and a printer; it has already allowed 20 ICDL students to be certified.
The centre is currently supporting a total of 80 learners who are segmented into three cohorts and attend at different time slots throughout the day. During Dominic’s visit, the students were revising for their upcoming ICDL assessments.

Next Steps
Dominic notes that while demand to use the centres exceeds their capacity, they are efficient in their offering despite capacity limitations and learners are well engaged and motivated. Dominic has committed to support fundraising efforts to install additional centres.
Nairobi County representatives have estimated that at least 17 centres are required to adequately serve communities across all wards, reducing the need for learners to travel long distances to access digital skills training.
